Mohammed Bin Zayed and Donald Trump Attend the Launch of the Comprehensive UAE-American Artificial Intelligence Hub

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced the launch of a comprehensive UAE-US Artificial Intelligence Complex with a capacity of 5 gigawatts at a ceremony held at the Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. This event coincides with President Trump’s state visit to the UAE.

The complex will host American companies that can leverage its capabilities to provide regional computing services, with the potential to serve markets in the Global South. It will provide 5 gigawatts of power for AI data centers in Abu Dhabi, creating a regional platform that enables major American firms to offer services to nearly half of the global population.

Upon completion, this facility will utilize nuclear, solar, and gas energy to minimize carbon emissions. It will also house a scientific center aimed at fostering innovation in the field of artificial intelligence. The complex is being constructed and operated by G42 in collaboration with several American companies.

This initiative is based on a new framework between the UAE and US governments known as the “AI Acceleration Partnership,” which seeks to enhance collaboration in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.

The UAE and the US will work together to manage access to and utilization of computing services, targeted at large computing manufacturers and approved cloud service providers in the United States.

On this occasion, Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Advanced Technology and AI Council, emphasized that the complex symbolizes ongoing constructive cooperation between the UAE and the United States in the AI sector.

This initiative also reflects the UAE’s commitment to enhancing innovation and global collaboration in artificial intelligence, solidifying the country’s position as a leading center for advanced research and sustainable development, benefiting all of humanity.

American Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick remarked that the complex marks a historic partnership in the Middle East focused on artificial intelligence between the two nations, facilitating significant investments in advanced semiconductors and data centers across the US and UAE.

He noted that American companies will operate data centers in the UAE, delivering managed cloud services throughout the region.

Furthermore, by expanding the reach of leading American technology firms to include a significant strategic partner in the region, the complex represents a vital achievement in realizing President Trump’s vision for a strengthened US role in artificial intelligence.

It’s noteworthy that the UAE has been proactive in adopting AI technologies across governmental and business sectors. In 2017, it became the first country to appoint a Minister of AI, and in 2019, it established the Mohammed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.

The UAE was also one of the first nations to launch a national AI strategy in 2017, aiming to cement its role as a global hub for artificial intelligence. This ambitious vision prioritizes integrating AI into vital sectors, including education, healthcare, transportation, and energy, enhancing the country’s stature as a leader in the global AI landscape.
