North Korea has conducted tests on its “most advanced” multiple rocket launch system, according to the Korean Central News Agency. This development comes shortly after Seoul detected the launch of approximately ten ballistic missiles from Pyongyang towards the Sea of Japan.
Kim Jong Un supervised the test on Saturday, which involved “12 precision multi-launchers with a caliber of 600 mm and two artillery batteries,” as reported by the agency.
Kim emphasized that this experiment would instill a sense of “anxiety” among Pyongyang’s adversaries within a strike range of “420 kilometers,” in addition to providing a “profound understanding of the destructive capability of tactical nuclear weapons,” according to the agency.
The Korean news outlet stated on Sunday that “the launched missiles accurately hit their target in the East Sea of Korea at a distance of approximately 364.4 kilometers with 100% precision, reaffirming the destructive capability of its concentrated strike and the military value of the system.”
Kim praised the multiple rocket launch system, referring to it as “a very deadly yet appealing weapon.”
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff reported on Saturday that armed forces in Seoul detected “approximately ten unidentified ballistic missiles launched from the Sunan area in North Korea towards the East Sea,” which is the Korean name for the Sea of Japan.
The South Korean presidency condemned the launches, calling them a “provocation that violates United Nations Security Council resolutions,” and urged Pyongyang to halt such activities immediately.
These tests follow shortly after the commencement of the South Korean and American spring military exercises.
