The Financial Times reported today that Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a ceasefire in Ukraine along the current frontline, as part of efforts to reach a peace agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the report, three sources familiar with the discussions mentioned that during a meeting in Saint Petersburg earlier this month, Putin informed Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, that Moscow might reconsider its demands for sovereignty over certain territories in four partially controlled Ukrainian regions that remain under Kyiv’s jurisdiction.
U.S. officials have reportedly suggested potential settlement ideas that involve Washington acknowledging Russia’s ownership of Crimea and at least recognizing Russian control over the four Ukrainian regions.
Furthermore, Ukrainian officials confirmed to the newspaper that they were open to some of the proposals presented by Trump and his team, although they did not specify the details.
