UAE Condemns Attack on Its Consulate General in Kurdistan, Iraq

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned and expressed its outrage over the treacherous drone attack on its consulate in Kurdistan, Iraq, marking the second such incident within a week. The attack resulted in injuries to two security personnel and caused damage to the consulate building.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in a statement that targeting diplomatic missions constitutes a blatant violation of international norms and laws, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees full immunity for diplomatic premises and their staff. Such actions pose a serious escalation and threaten regional security and stability.

The UAE urged the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government to investigate the circumstances surrounding this attack, identify those responsible, and take all necessary measures to ensure accountability for the perpetrators. The ministry reiterated the UAE’s firm rejection of such malicious attacks aimed at destabilizing security and emphasized the need to protect diplomatic missions and their personnel in accordance with international laws and norms.

In a similar vein, Qatar has also condemned and expressed its strong disapproval of the assault on the UAE’s consulate in Kurdistan, labeling it an unacceptable act that constitutes a serious breach of international norms and treaties designed to protect diplomatic missions and their facilities.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry affirmed in a statement that targeting diplomatic missions represents a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and constitutes a dangerous escalation that threatens the safety and security of diplomats, undermining internationally recognized diplomatic principles.

Qatar reiterated its steadfast position against all acts of violence and terrorism targeting diplomatic missions or undermining security and stability, expressing solidarity with the UAE and support for measures that would enhance security and stability in Iraq and the wider region.

Meanwhile, Kuwait has strongly condemned the recent attack on the UAE consulate in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that the targeting of diplomatic missions and facilities is a blatant violation of international law and diplomatic norms, particularly the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

The ministry reiterated Kuwait’s rejection of continued attacks and expressed full solidarity with the UAE, supporting all efforts to enhance the security of its diplomatic missions and the safety of their personnel.

Additionally, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has condemned in the strongest terms the attack on the UAE consulate in the Kurdistan region for the second time in a week.

The ministry stressed the utmost necessity of adhering to international law principles and fully committing to the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, ensuring the necessary protection for diplomatic missions and the safety of all their members. It affirmed Jordan’s solidarity and unwavering support for the UAE in response to this attack.

Furthermore, the Government of Kurdistan, Iraq, issued a statement strongly condemning the attack on the UAE consulate in Erbil and all brazen assaults on the region’s territories and institutions, as well as on consulates and diplomatic missions. The statement noted that these terrorist acts and acts of vandalism targeting Kurdistan represent a severe violation of international law and the sanctity and sovereignty of Kurdistan and Iraq, which are actions that are wholly condemned without justification. The Erbil government called upon the federal government in Baghdad to assume its legal responsibilities.
