Starlink, the satellite internet service founded by US entrepreneur Elon Musk, has officially launched its services in the UAE.
This launch coincides with the ongoing conflict involving Iran, which has been targeting oil and gas facilities in the Gulf region.
Starlink provides two options for individual users. The first option is an unlimited data plan priced at AED300 (approximately $82) per month, as stated on the Starlink website.
The second option is a “lite” residential plan that costs AED230 per month, offering a 23% discount. This plan includes “deprioritized” data, meaning that users may experience slower speeds during peak traffic times.
It is important to note that Starlink customers must buy their equipment separately, starting at around AED1,099.
In November, Emirates, based in Dubai, announced plans to implement Starlink across its fleet of 232 in-service aircraft by mid-2027. The rollout will begin with Boeing 777s in late 2025, followed by Airbus A380s in 2026.
In October 2024, Qatar Airways became the first airline in the Gulf to offer Starlink services on its Boeing 777 fleet. Both Saudi Arabia and Oman have also approved the use of Starlink.
Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national airline, plans to introduce Starlink across its entire fleet starting in mid-2026.
